Competition began at the annual ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday with the first day of the decathlon and heptathlon, as well as a handful of field events. Manhattan College's Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) was sitting in seventh place after the first five events of the decathlon, while Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) was eighth after Day One of the heptathlon. In addition, Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) participated in the women's discus throw at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.
